Oce Making Big Waves in the Business Outsourcing Pool

By Carrie Schmelkin, TMCnet Web Editor

As any business in today’s competitive environment can attest to, the process of handling document process management services can be cumbersome and time consuming; most importantly, it can take an administrator’s focus away from more mission critical tasks.

Consequently, there has never been a greater demand than now for business process outsourcing, or handing over these mundane tasks to a provider that can help you once again enjoy operational efficiency and manage costs. And that’s exactly where Océ Business Services has found its sweet spot.

“We deliver premier managed business process services that enable clients to mitigate risk, improve operational efficiency and reduce costs,” Ken Neal, director of Corporate Communications for Océ Business Services, told TMCnet. “This value proposition is backed by our belief that business documents are vital information assets that must be actively managed throughout their lifecycle in order to maximize value and minimize risk.”

Océ’s road to innovation began in 1997 when the company acquired Archer Management Services which primarily provided mail services. Then in 2004, Archer became Océ Business Services and the company’s new goal was to become a provider of services that span the document lifecycle, from document creation through disposal. Almost a decade later, Océ Business Services has emerged as a global provider of business process services that helps some of the world’s largest organizations reach success.

With decades of experience under its belt, Océ has attracted a number of large and mid-sized enterprises, from law firms to educational institutions to the public sector in North America. The business process outsourcer helps a significant number of Fortune 500 companies and legal industry clients such as law firms ranked on the annual Am Law 100 list. Océ also touches countless vertical industries including financial services, insurance, legal, manufacturing, technology, healthcare and pharmaceuticals, education and government largely because of its competitive advantage.

“Our competitors are major document management service providers, many of which are subsidiaries of document equipment vendors,” Neal said. “One of our key differentiators is that we do not focus on only selling equipment or providing service in one specific area such as mail management. In contrast, our integrated services span the full document lifecycle, from document creation through disposal.”

“Second, our services are independent of deploying any specific brand of equipment (i.e. ‘vendor agnostic’) and therefore we can truly customize our services to meet our clients’ business and technical requirements,” he added. “Third, we can provide our services via a flexible, blended delivery model utilizing our onsite, offsite and offshore operations. Fourth, we offer clients deep expertise in Six Sigma methodologies that can help them drive continuous process performance.”

Throughout the year Océ has continued to maintain its competitive edge by announcing a variety of innovations. Most recently, the company announced that one of the nation’s largest law firms signed a three-year agreement for Océ Business Services to implement its dataDeliver onsite eDiscovery processing service.  The new service provides legal organizations with an electronic discovery solution deployed onsite as a managed service, helping to improve efficiency and client service while lowering costs and reducing risk, according to company officials.

Moreover, Océ recently co-presented a webcast on Business Process Imaging (BPI) with IDC (News - Alert) Research, a webcast that shed light on the findings of a survey of over 100 executives conducted by IDC. The session covered issues such as what is most important in the optimization of the BPI center: technology, people, or process?

For Océ, 2012 has also been a year of recognition for the company as it received exciting news in February when it was named to the top-ranked Leaders category of the International Association of Outsourcing Professionals’ (IAOP) 2012 Global Outsourcing 100 list. It marked the sixth consecutive year in which Océ Business Services was ranked a Leader in The Global Outsourcing 100.

“To continue to live up to this industry recognition, one focus for the rest of the year is to help our clients meet key challenges they are facing,” Neal said. “Many companies, for example, are struggling with a legacy technology infrastructure that is not meeting their current business needs. Additionally, many organizations have limited staff with limited expertise in document process management, and they lack the knowledge of how to optimize and continuously improve document management activities.”

“Another big challenge is a lack of policies, processes and procedures to effectively meet government and industry compliance requirements, which increases risk,” he added. “Our goal is to continue to help our clients succeed by meeting these and other critical challenges in the days ahead.”
