NTT Communications Strengthens Global Security Outsourcing

By Frank Griffin, TMCnet Contributing Writer

Securing the large amount of data that is created each and every day is a monumental task. The constant threat from hackers who are trying to access your information means the security measures you use have to work every time an attempt is made. An effective data loss or leak prevention solution protects your data at all times even while it is in use, in motion or at-rest. The risk of data loss or leak becomes that much greater when services are outsourced. NTT Com announced it is going to provide network profiling, file verification and data loss prevention (DLP) for total outsourcing security risk management solutions as part of its Managed Security Services.

The service is especially geared towards cyber attacks targeting enterprises. It will protect ICT environments by detecting threats and reducing the risk of data leakage resulting from targeted attacks by giving customers tools with strong security measures. A recent Security and Passwords Survey revealed privileged account access is a big problem with 100 percent of the respondents stating internal and external factors are responsible for the breach.

By providing network profiling, file verification and DLP key areas of security breach can be addressed.

  • Network Profiling – the complexity and size of network system means they are vulnerable to breach. Profiling and analyzing the network gives the customer information about unauthorized access, threats, risks and assessment not possible with standard security protocols. Security measures can be tailored so each customer can identify threats earlier and act accordingly.
  • File Verification – files are monitored using security equipment installed on the customer’s network so it can scrutinize files that have been downloaded or attachments that are part of an e-mail. The file is tested for unknown malware which escape standard antivirus protocols.
  • DLP – is activated after a DLP device is installed on the client’s network. It can detect and report on any violation which breaches the customer’s protocols. Anytime unauthorized data leaves the network or is making an attempt a report is issued. If current security measures are not adequate it can be upgraded to have more security in place.

NTT’s (News - Alert) Managed Security Services provides a protection to on-cloud and on-premise systems with a different security solutions uniquely designed to meet the needs of each customer according to their ICT environment. The service is part of a comprehensive program with 24/7 support in 13 countries around the world employing more than 400 experts in their field. The company’s network has a worldwide infrastructure of tier-1 IP network in over 150 countries and 130 secure data centers.

Security measures are only as effective as the implementation of the measures outlined by the service provider. Systems have to be constantly monitored to ensure the safety parameters are working adequately. Forty three percent of the respondents  in the study stated organization do not monitor the use of privileged accounts and of those that monitor access 52 percent believed they can defeat the security measure.
