Infosys BPO Project Genesis Succeeds in Training 100,000 Students in India

The business process outsourcing subsidiary of Infosys, Infosys BPO, recently stated that its flagship corporate social responsibility (CSR (News - Alert)) initiative, Project Genesis, has trained more than 100,000 students in India. This training is meant to enhance these students' level of employability in the ITeS (information technology enabled services) industry.


Launched in Karnataka, South West India, in 2005, Project Genesis is an industry-academia partnership initiative that aims to increase student employability throughout Tier 2 and Tier 3 towns in the country. As such, the curriculum of the initiative had to be tailored to account for the limited industry exposure these students tend to have. The program is conducted in four phases, which are designed to have the highest possible impact on the students.

"We are proud to see such inspiring results from Project Genesis, which had made a strong impact right since inception," said Raghavendra K, vice president and head of Human Resources Development at Infosys (News - Alert) BPO, in a statement. "We have reached out to over 100,000 students from Tier-II and Tier-III towns in India, and continue to strive towards reaching out to more."

The program helps academics with being able to handle queries and concerns from students about starting a career in the BPO industry. Focusing on employability and the students' ability to transition into the corporate world, the program aims to create a level playing field in terms of industry knowledge and exposure. As a result, students should have a fair chance of securing a position in the industry.

Academics involved in the program also receive training prior to student contact. This period of 10 days trains them in the Global Skills Enhancement curriculum on the Infosys campus.

Infosys BPO won two awards in 2012 for BPO. The first was the Outsourcing Excellence Award 2012 in the 'Best New Process/Application' category presented by the Outsourcing Center, while the second was the coveted Golden Peacock HR Excellence Award 2012 in the BPO category.
