Alorica Extends Employment Opportunities to Military Spouses

By Rachel Ramsey, TMCnet Web Editor

While military spouses are well-educated and highly qualified for a range of careers, they face a 26 percent unemployment rate and a 25 percent wage gap compared to their civilian counterparts.  Seventy-seven percent of these spouses want or need work, yet frequent relocation is often a barrier to finding and maintaining a rewarding career. The inability of spouses to obtain and retain fulfilling employment as they relocate with the military compromises the quality of life of military families and the readiness of the military force.

The Military Spouse Employment Partnership (MSEP) is part of the Department of Defense (DoD)’s broader spouse education and career opportunities initiative. MSEP is a targeted recruitment and employment solution that creates employment connections that provide companies with direct access to military spouses seeking career opportunities and spouses with direct access to employers who are actively recruiting.

Alorica, a provider of business process outsourcing solutions, was recently inducted into the MSEP to support the mission of AloriCares, its veteran home agent program, by extending employment opportunities to disabled vets and military spouses.

“Supporting the families of service members with employment opportunities is equally as important and impactful,” said Stanton Dumin, vice president Talent Acquisition, Alorica. There is a certification process to become inducted into the MSEP. Companies must be a stable business, have a minimum five-year track record, good reputation, good BBB (Better Business Bureau) rating, clearly articulate the opportunities available for military spouses and be willing to make a commitment to supporting the mission of the MSEP org. This isn’t Alorica’s first experience with the military. AloriCares is fully managed and staffed by American veterans and was created to provide service solutions in a virtual call center environment while empowering American veterans to reclaim their lives after service. Alorica joining the MSEP fits with AloriCare’s mission to support military service members and families.

“Jobs at AloriCares fit targets for the military for several reasons,” explained Dumin. “The work at home model is flexible in location and portable to new locations if they relocate. Military spouses fit skill requirements and supporting the military spouse’s career helps while the spouse is enlisted and as they transition into civilian workforce by providing stability. It also opens a large pool of qualified talent to AloriCares that often have challenges finding traditional employment.”Yesterday, new MSEP partners attended the new partner orientation in D.C., and today is the new partner induction ceremony, where new partners will sign a Statement of Support to solidify their partnership. The week continues tomorrow with partner meetings and working sessions with new partners and enduring MSEP partners.

After attending the new partner orientation, Dumin feels “even stronger about the alignment of MSEP and Alorica/AloriCares.” Dumin is excited for jobs to align with this population. Alorica plans on attending job fair events near its traditional centers and posting jobs to their portals as well.

With 26 percent of military spouses unemployed, the biggest challenge they face is the portability of employment during relocation. AloriCares’ work at home model fits great for this population, a truly innovative endeavor created to support American lives by connecting business opportunity and military talent.
